Book review 17: Geronimo Stilton- Alien escape #1

Geronimo Stilton- Alien escape #1

This book is about a boy. His name is Geronimo Stilton. He has a job. His job is working as a publisher at the rodent's gazette. He has a sister named Thea and she
fills in for him when he can’t be there. Normally if he is not there then he is on a mission. Did I say mission?. Well, this is what the story is all about. Geronimo is the captain for the space ship that they will be flying to space. You may be thinking, why are they flying to space. Well, they are flying to space because they are doing a mission. That mission is to find more blue tertrastellium because they have run out. Tetrastellium is something that helps them fly their ship. So what I am saying is the tetrastellium is kinda there petrol. Then there is this other planet that comes in. It is a pink planet. The name of that planet is called the big pink blob. Later on in the story the team finds out that the big blob is actually a monster. The pink monster can transform into anything he wants to no matter how small and how big. The funny thing is, he can even fit into a mint container. The group is more focused on the pink blob that they don’t have enough time to get the blue tetrastellium. With they fail to get the blue tetrastellium?

My favourite character in this book is Thea because she is the one who always fix people’s problems. I rate this book a 7 out of 10 because it was interesting.

I recommend this book for ages 8 and over because it has some hard words in. I also recommend this book for people who love to read Geronimo Stilton books.

Well, goodbye until my next book review!

North America: Canada

Do you know a flag that has a maple leaf on it? Do you know a place that is very popular? Well, if you don’t know the answer let me tell you. The answers to all these questions is Canada

In Canada they speak three languages. The three languages are Canadian, French and English. In 2012 the population of Canada was around 35 million. Now the population is 35.16 million. Canada is made up of 10 provinces and 3 territories. The most popular sport in Canada is ice- hockey. In Canada,  these are the major cities -- Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. The General Governor in Canada is David Johnston. Calgary hosted the Winter Olympics in 1998. Vancouver  hosted it in 2010  and the 1976 Summer Olympics was hosted by Montreal. Important times for the Canadians to win and show their hard work into these competitions.

The name Canada comes from the word ‘Kanata’ which means ‘settlement’ or village of the language indigenous St Lawrence Iroquoians. In Canada the government is a democracy system government chosen by the whole population. The currency is Canadian dollars.
Do you know the what the largest waterfall is in Canada? Niagara waterfalls is one of Canada’s biggest tourist attraction since it was formed in the last Ice Age.  The spectacular view of the falls is on the Canadian side.  It is the one of the biggest falls that extends to Virginia, USA

Quebec city is  an old town which is discovered in the year 1608. Great to see the Frontenac castle buildings from the 18th and 19th century.  Canada’s longest river is the Mckenzie river in the North West. It is 2,635 miles or 4,241km long. Canada is a great place to be because you can have lots of fun with your family. The flag has a unique symbol, which is the maple leaf.

Report on child labour

Report on child labour

What is happening to children all over the world? What are they being forced to do? What are other people doing about this issue? Well, I will tell you what is happening to them.

What are the children being forced to do?
All over the world child labour is happening and the main question is, what are the adults doing about this issue. Adults are not doing enough about this issue.  Children are vulnerable and need help. Children are forced to work as servants. They work on all sorts of jobs like selling stuff on street stalls, cleaning, sewing or working in factories, and they do this either for free or for minimal pay. This is what child labour is and can affect the world.

All over the world, about 60% of children are used in child labour most specially in agriculture and farming. There are about  168 million children working. Most children are working in the worst conditions and treated badly, such as getting beaten up for being too slow in working, used in drug trafficking, in dangerous factories and sometimes they are used to fight in wars.

What are the people doing to the children?
The people are hurting the children in many ways such as violence, child abuse, threats and many more. Children are also being forced to take part in armed conflict such as  war and civil war. This mostly happens in Africa, the Middle East and other third world countries. Governments are not doing anything about this issue and they are just letting it happen. Some parents are letting their children take part in these situations and some parents have no choice due to the very poor life. Some kids even do this job at the age of 5 and up to 16 years old.

What are the politicians (Government) doing about this issue/situation?
The Governments are not doing anything. They are letting it happen. This is a serious matter/issue that is affecting many countries. It is affecting the families and it is spreading globally.  And do you think that they should be doing this? When children do this they will not learn from this and children deserve to have a better education than being forced to work as slaves. Children should be allowed to learn about normal things in life such as being a child who plays, and go to school to learn. But not the bad experiences in life. They should be able to have a good life and not have a life where they get bullied and other things. Also children deserve and have the right to a good healthy childhood. They should have a good relationship with their parents. Some kids don’t get to have a relationship with their mums and dads because the kids get taken away. And this is also known as child trafficking.

What is child labour?
Child labour is work undertaken by a child that can be harmful to them in many different kind of ways. The labour can be harmful to their health, ability, physical and safety. The worst forms of child labour include using children as slaves or forcing them into drugs or to commit crimes. When child labour happens it affects their life because they don’t get a better education. If they don’t get a better education then it will affect them because they will not learn. And learning is the number 1 thing that all children should get. Also because learning keeps your brain going.

Note: If you want to help children to have a better education such as the little kids who are forced to work, then donate to them now and help them to learn and have a better, safer and healthier life.

Report on: Syrian exodus

Syrian exodus

What is happening in Syria? Do you know a place that has so much war and conflict? How did the civil war start? Why are Syrians leaving their country? Where is there President now? Why are Syrians going to Europe?  Why does it affect the world?

What is happening in Syria?
In Syria there is civil war, they are in war against their own citizens.  War, conflict, arguing and fighting are the things that you see in Syria. These are the problems that affect them and others but it can also affect the world.  They are also going elsewhere with no citizenship at all.

How can it affect the world?
It can affect the world because they are accepting refugees that are bringing more conflict and war. Refugees are escaping their country because of the civil war. Policemen are torturing the people, they are dying in much pain. They are doing this for they don’t want people to leave the country.

Do you know why Nations are not accepting refugees?
Well, they are not accepting refugees because they will not have enough money to pay for their accommodation, supplies, food, water, shelter and hospitality. Every year in New Zealand we accept 800 refugees and we pay for all the things they need. And guess what!!! In about 5 years we have already accepted 4,000 refugees and now they are living here in our country (New Zealand). Sometimes Nations and countries don’t accept refugees because they are bad. Also because they can go to a country and teach children bad stuff like guns and knives. And that is what you call isis. They are the real isis ones. Sometimes even New Zealand does not accept them because we won’t have enough money to pay for them.

Why don’t we have enough money to pay for them?
We won’t have enough money to pay for them because we accept 800 refugees every once a year. And that means we are paying lots of money for them and probably over 2,000. Also because there are also lots of poor people in our country that we need to put first.

Why do Nations fera about this issue?
In Syria more than 200,000 people have lost their homes and lives in four years of armed conflict. More than 11 million people have been forced by their president to: battle each other and have civil war. Some Nations fear that some migrants could be infiltrators. In June 2013 90,000 people had been killed in conflict and civil war. In Syria if you wanted to escape and go to another country then you have to pay 81,000 dollars.

One thing that can happen if you escape?
One time a man paid someone to take his family to another country and a big wave came and his little boy fell off the boat and was found washed up on the beach dead. Also the mother died and the older brother. They all drowned because they could not swim. The only person that survived was the father and his sister in Canada said that she was worried about him.

Why does Syria have such a big issue?
Syria has a big issue because they always have civil war and also because there are many bad refugees that are torturing people and travelling to other countries with no citizenship at all. Also because some people are losing their lives and getting killed because they want to leave their country.

What has happened to the president?
The President has been kidnapped by the isis people and since he is kidnapped he can’t do anything about this issue and situation in Syria. We still don’t know if the President is alive or dead. But hopefully we will all find out on the news to see what has happened to the refugees and what the isis people are doing to them. Also the isis people are making plans and going undercover as Syrian migrants so people won’t see who they really are.

What has happened?
As Syria’s crisis has escalated (increase), smuggling operations have grown more sophisticated (revealing) and refugees in camps in Turkey,Jordan and Lebanon are increasingly desperate to get out. In the nine months to September,4,552 migrants were rescued in the waters around chios alone more than twice the number for the whole of 2013.

Bridge revise

Bridge Revise

Problem: To construct a strong bridge that can hold 2 duct tape for 1 minute.

Materials: 2 A4 paper, 10 straws, 1 pipe cleaner, 1 cardboard roll, 1m tape, 1m string and scissors.

How to make it:

* We cut the tape, string and cardboard roll.
* We  measured the cardboard roll, rolls have the same measurement and dimension..
* We connect the cardboard rolls with sellotape to the base.
* We stick the string on the straw with sellotape and we stick the sellotape together with the cardboard roll.
* We put tape on the string and cardboard roll.
* We tie the string together with the straws.
* We fold the paper on the sides to make our rails.
* We construct our bridge to make it sturdy and stable.
* We bend our straws together.

We tested the bridge by placing 2 duct tape on top of it for 1 min. Our bridge held the duct tape but then it fell down. However when our bridge collapsed we reconstructed it again. We tested it out again with 2 duct tape to see if it holds and it did!

It was a success, the duct tape stood for 2 mins and the bridge did not collapse. We were persistent to go on and never gave up. We collaborated in the building of our bridge.

Donate to the cancer society on Daffodil day!

Do you want to know how to help children and adults who have cancer? Well, this is the way you can help!. You can donate money to the cancer foundation. They help cancer patients with no resources, they pay for their chemotherapy or other stuff that they could be going through. School children can also help too. On DAffodil day you wear a yellow daffodil and donate a gold coin. Wearing a yellow daffodil means that you are showing your support to the people who have cancer and showing pride in helping them. When you donate money and wear a yellow daffodil you feel happy and proud because you are helping and caring for the people in need. You could also be saving lives with the help of the money that you have donated.

On Daffodil day,  you wear yellow plastic Daffodils because that was the appropriate color that they chose. Daffodil day is a very special day because lots of children gather to have a special money trail to donate money for children or adults suffering  from this disease of any form. It is our duty to help as much as we can because even little babies and children suffer from cancer. And many of them don’t have enough money to pay for their treatment. Daffodil day only comes once a year on the 28th of August. Think about the children.  How would you be feeling if you had no money to pay for your chemotherapy?.

If you would like to help out on daffodil day next year (2016),  then please click on the link below. Also, think about the little kids and what their suffering. Save a life and make them a happy family again.
