Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham bell was born on March the 3rd, in the year 1847. Bell was born in edinburgh, scotland. Bell’s parents names are Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace Symonds Bell. Alexander Graham bell is known for inventing and creating a telephone. Alexander has four kids. There names are Robert Bell (Son), Elsie Bell (daughter), Marian Hubbard Bell (daughter) and Edward Bell (son). Bell was an  inventor, scientist, engineer, professor and teacher of the deaf. Alexander had 10 relatives.

He won 3 awards which was a Albert medal, John Fritz medal and a Elliott Cresson Medal. Bell was a resident of the United Kingdom, Canada and United States.

Sadly Alexander Graham Bell died on August the 2nd, 1922 aged 75. The cause of Alexander’s death is because of diabetes. He died in Canada.

I’m sure that his parents would have been proud of his invention and creation. Thank you so much Alexander for your invention of a telephone because without one we can not send things and we can not hear things even if they are urgent.

Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio, United States. Thomas Edison is known for creating and inventing electric light and power utilities, sound recording, and motion pictures. These were also the things that he would call devices. Thomas’s parents are Samuel Ogden Edison and Nancy Matthews Elliott. Edison’s nationality (Culture) is American. Thomas Edison has five children named Charles Edison, Madeleine Edison,Theodore Miller Edison, Marion Estelle Edison and William Leslie Edison.

Thomas has a middle name which is Alva. He also had a education  which was to self educate with visits to the cooper union.

Thomas had a wife named Mary Stillwell but then remarried to another woman named Mina Miller. So now Thomas has a father in law named Lewis Miller.

Edison had a achievement and goal which was to make a light bulb. Lucky for him that he could.

So now we have light bulbs because he invented them. Thomas Edison advanced his work by a telegraph operator. Sadly Thomas Edison died on October the 18th 1831 aged 84.

Thomas was a great inventor and I’m sure his parents would have been proud of him. Thanks you Thomas Edison because without your invention we would have no light so thank you for being the light and not the dark.

Carrie Underwood is a famous popular singer. Underwood was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Carrie won the fourth season of American Idol. She also won multiple academy and grammy awards. She won these things because she is the best country pop singer. Carrie was born on March the 10th 1983. She is at the age of 32. Carrie Underwood was active since 2005 and she still is. Her associated partner is a man named Brad Paisley. Brad paisley helped her in her music and helped her to become a better singer.

Carrie’s favourite instrument to play is the vocals, Guitar and piano. Her favourite music is pop or country pop. When Carrie was at high school she played basketball,softball and was a cheerleader.

Underwood is famous for her music. Carrie had a dream of singing and becoming famous. Then After graduation Carrie sang in front of her whole family but then she said at the time she just gave up on her dream of singing.

At high school Carrie was also a society member. She also competed in numerous beauty pageants at the university and was selected as Miss NSU runner-up in 2004. Underwood had a Job which was working at a pizza shop, zoo and veterinary clinic.

Then when Carrie Underwood was growing up she then started to love singing especially country pop. So then her biggest inspiration was singing and make an album and lucky for her that her dream came true again.

Abandoned baby found with a litter of puppies

A stray dog found an abandoned and disowned baby in a forest in Kenya. The dog carried the baby across a busy road passing through dirty road, dangerous areas and even through a barbed wire fence to her litter of puppies in a very poor community in Nairobi. The dog brought the baby to her place where she cared for her own babies. She took the baby as one of her own. The dog would care for her. One of the local resident, Lonet Gogany later on found the baby among the puppies. Then two boys found the baby with the dog and they heard the baby crying. The baby was abandoned two days before the dog found her. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital. But so far no one has claimed her. The dog who saved her now lived with her puppies at an animal shelter.

Book review 13: Charlie and the chocolate factory.

Charlie and the chocolate factory

This book is about a young boy named Charlie Bucket. There were five golden tickets hidden in five Willy Wonka chocolates. If five people found the golden tickets then they will get to go on a trip to Mr Willy Wonkas factory. Mr Willy Wonka is a man who has a factory full of candy and is an adventurous man. Then Charlie Bucket went to the candy shop and asked for a Mr Willy Wonka chocolate bar. So he then went outside and opened it and saw that he won the golden ticket. Once all five golden tickets were found they would all get to go to the factory. The people who went was Charlie Bucket, Veruca Salt, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee. When they got there they got to go to the factory where Mr Willy Wonka kept all his candy. When they went inside they saw teacups, bubblegum, leaves and many more and you could eat them all. At the end Charlie got to go on the great glass elevator. The great glass elevator is where you go inside an elevator and you go through glass and up into the air. When the elevator went through the glass Mr Willy Wonka said that Charlie could Have the whole of Mr Willy Wonkas Factory and have it forever and that when Charlie dies he can pass it on to the next person so that it will go from generation to generation.  

My favourite part in this book was when the five kids got to go into the factory where all the candy was stored and they got to eat as much as they wanted which is really cool. My favourite character in this book is Charlie Bucket because he go to go to the factory and go to eat all the candy which is really yum.

I recommend this book for people who love reading Roald Dahl and for people who love to read adventure books. The ages I would recommend this for is 9 and over because it is very fascinating and I think that they would enjoy it.

Facts about Mercury

Mercury is a small planet which orbits closer to the sun than any other planet in our solar system. As well as being very hot, it features a barren, crater covered surface which looks similar to Earth's moon.

• The surface of Mercury is very similar to our moon. It has a very barren ( vegetation), rocky surface covered with many craters.

• If you are really close to the Sun then in daytime the temperature on Mercury is scorching ( very hot) reaching over 400 Degrees Celsius!

• At night however, without an atmosphere to hold the heat in, the temperatures plummet ( drop down), to 180 Degrees Celsius.

• Mercury has a very low surface of gravity!

• Mercury has no atmosphere so there is no wind or weather.
• There is also no water on the surface of Mercury but however it is possible that there could be water beneath the surface!

• There is no air on the surface but who knows if it could be trapped underneath the surface!

My message about Respect

Respect

I think that everyone should have respect for each other and for themselves. People should obey their parents and elders. If people want respect then you have to be kind and nice. One thing to have respect is to treat others the way they want to be treated and to treat them equally. If you do not treat them nicely then you won't get the respect you want. Respecting people is a nice thing to do because then they will want to become friends with you and because they realize that respecting is not just good but it is a great thing to do and have. Respecting people shows how kind, generous, loving and caring person you are. Being a caring person is nice because everybody will like you. Also because if you're being mean then nobody will like you and  nobody will be your friend. So the message that I am trying to tell you is that everyone should Respect everyone and themselves because that will make us and the world a very happy place to be in.

Book review 12: Matilda

Matilda

This book is about a young girl named Matilda. Matilda has one brother . Her mother and father cared for her brother more than her. At the age of three Matilda could read chapter books and her parents didn’t even care not one of them. Then at the age of five Matilda finished reading all the adult and kids books and she became very smart. When she went to school she had one friend. Her friend was a girl named Lavender. Lavender was very kind and nice to Matilda. At school Matilda had a teacher named Miss Honey. Miss Honey was very sweet to Matilda. She was always there to help her and she cared for Matilda probably more than Matilda’s parents did. In class Matilda was the smartest out of all of them. Matilda was the only one who could read adult and big chapter books while the other students couldn’t. Matilda is not like any ordinary person. She has powers. She can move things with her eyes by concentrating on the object. When Matilda tries to tell her parents something her mother and father would always say they were too busy. The business that her father and mother are doing is just spending too much time with Matilda’s brother and wasn't even letting Matilda there own daughter tell them something. Matilda always felt left out and lonely. The happy part was that Matilda was lucky to have Miss Honey as her teacher because Miss Honey would always give time for her students and even Matilda. Matilda felt very happy that someone did care for her and not leave her out of something. Then Matilda’s parents wanted to move house but Miss Honey really wanted Matilda to stay so Miss Honey adopted Matilda and she was Matilda’s new mother.

My favourite part in the book was that Miss Honey got to adopt Matilda because Matilda’s other parents didn’t even care for Matilda as Miss Honey did. My favourite character in this book is Matilda. She is my favourite character because she has magic powers and she is amazing. I also like Matilda because she could read adult and kids books at the age of three. Even when Matilda’s parents didn't care for her she would still be a happy ordinary girl.

I recommend this book for people who love reading Roald Dahl books and for people who love reading chapter books with people who have magic powers. The ages I would recommend this book for is 9 and over because it is very interesting and I think that they will like it too.

This is my reflection on a shape which represents those who went out to war. I learned this in my learning and I would like to share this with you.

War or peace?

War or peace?

Do you think that we should have war or peace?

My answer to that would be to not just have peace but to make peace. We need to make peace because there is too much war happening and people are getting hurt. War is not a nice thing to do or have because of the danger of guns going everywhere and the next thing you know you’ll be shot. War is very loud but peace is quiet and silent. Peace is a wonderful thing but it can take an awful lot of time to make it happen. War is such a bad thing to have because when one family member who is at war and then you get a letter saying that one of your family has died, this is so distressing. 

We need to make peace. The world is in a bad shape where different nations are fighting each other. Many get killed most specially children, women and innocent men. We need to be quiet and calm until it is very silent, we need to have a safe place where everyone is happy. Another thing to make peace is to not think about anything else and just do whatever you are doing and just keep doing it. We have to strive hard to have peace so the world will be a happy place.

Book review 11: Thea stilton and the blue scarab hunt

Thea Stilton And The Blue Scarab Hunt.

This book is about five girls named Nicky, Colette, Violet, Paulina and Pamela. They go on a mission to find treasure. They found clues along their mission. There first clue was that there treasure was secretly hidden in an Ancient temple. The treasure contained Diamonds, Gold, trophies, necklaces, rings and bracelets. They looked everywhere and everyday but they still couldn’t find anything not even one piece of treasure. Then they found their second clue which was that someone else was also looking for the treasure so they had a challenge. They were competing each other to see who would find and get the treasure first. It was up to the five girls to take the lead and find the treasure first. So they looked day and night and they were starving and thirsty but they said that no matter what happens if we're hungry or not we are not going to give up and we will keep trying our best till we find that treasure. At the end the five girls did find the treasure and they did take it. They were all so happy to be the first one to have it and the other person felt so stupid that he did not find it.

I recommend this book for 8 and over because it is full of mystery and adventure. Another thing is because it is a very fascinating book to read.

I rate this book a 9 out of 10 it is a nice calm book and very interesting.

On 27 March, a young boy is going to have surgery. His name is Seth. Seth’s family is asking the world to keep supporting him and to wear anything yellow. They want people to wear yellow because he likes the minions from despicable me. Yellow signifies a strong immune system.

Scid is a genetic condition that arises when the body is born without T-cells. Seth’s family is asking the world to keep supporting Seth and wear anything yellow. Yellow signifies a strong immune system. He likes the colour yellow too because he likes the yellow minions from Despicable me.

Universities are banning smart watches.

Universities banning smartwatches

The main person in this news article are students from universities, Michael Clarke and Rory McCourt who wished to ban smart watches during tests in the University.

This event took place in Massey university  on May 13th. Michael Clarke said "that students who want to cheat will go to all ends to make it possible."

The Universities in New Zealand are banning smart watches from students who go for exams in uni. They think students cheat using smart watches by going to the internet to search for the answer.

Massey university have planned that universities should not have smart watches because they can go on the internet during tests and cheat. On May the 13th 2015, I think the future of smart watches will be recreated.

The Mummified Monk.

What does the buddha statue contain? It contained a holy man and he was in the statue for 200 years and it contained a monk.

When did its secret get revealed? The secret got revealed in 1997.

Why did scientists halt the investigation?  They stopped the investigation because there was no answer of how the organs were removed.

Why was the Buddha at the Drents museum? The Buddha was at the Drents museum because they were having an exhibition and it was exhibited.

What did the ct scans show? The ct scans showed the monks bones and body.

What was the big surprise? The big surprise was that they were stunned to find papers in the places where there was suppose to be the internal organs.

What is self-mummification? Self Mummification is when you allow yourself to be mummified.

Why do some monks go through it? Some monks go through it because it is an Ancient ritual.

Mummified Monk Report

Researchers have found a Buddha statue and found it a bit more interesting than other artifacts. So these researchers really wanted to find out more information about this Buddha and they did!

There was a man named Liuquan that was stuck inside the statue and was there for 1,000 years. Then the scientists discovered it and took some tests. One of the tests was called the CT scan that scan the monk and it showed the monk’s body and bones.

The scientists didn’t even know why Liuquan’s body was encased inside the golden coloured Buddha statue for over 200 years.

Liuquan was self-mummified. He allowed himself to be mummified. Liuquan put himself on a diet by feeding himself only with nuts, berries, tree bark and pine needles until he was on the brink of death. He retired to an underground chamber that was completely sealed. He had a bamboo tube for breathing and he would settle down in a lotus position. When the food ran out he settled in lotus position until he died.

Scientists were surprised that they found papers in the places where there was suppose to be the internal organs--- this was a big mystery.

5 Thea sisters Colette,Pamela,Paulina,  Nicki and violet are off to take a vacation. One of the Thea sisters Violet was thinking how about a trip to Greece looking at a travel brochure. Patagonia would be great too she said but finally they all agreed to take a trip to Spain. Once they got there  they find out that there cousin Carlos got a fan and someone has stolen it. That was Rosita”s fan the aunt of the 5 Thea sisters.

My answer to that would be to not just have peace but to make peace. We need to make peace because there is too much war happening and people are getting hurt. Book review 9: EJ12- Ciao EJ.

EJ12: Ciao EJ

This book is about a young girl named Emma Jacks. Emma Jacks also happens to be a secret agent and is know as EJ12. In the morning on the first day of school she was going to go to her friends when she saw them talking with Nema. Nema is a mean girl to Emma Jacks. Emma thought that they were talking about her and teasing her. Then she got a message from her team leader and it said that they all have a mission to do. So they went and met up with there team leader (A1). A1 (team leader) told the girls that there mission was to find out who has hidden five keys and where they put them. So they had clues every step they went and at the end they found out that someone called contessa carini hid the five keys. So Emma got the keys from her and made a copy and gave the contessa the copy while Emma had the real one.

I rate this book a 9 out of 10 because I love EJ12 books and because I love to read mystery.

I recommend this book for 8 and over and for people who loves reading EJ12 books.

EJ12: Secret Safari.

This book is about a young girl named Emma Jacks which also happens to be a secret agent. At lunch Emma was suppose to meet up with her friends at the netball court. So she did and found out that the rest of her friends weren't there. So she waited there for hours until she saw them laughing at her. When she saw them laughing at her she realized that they were also talking with Nema. Nema is a mean girl who always bullies people especially Emma. Then Emma had a text from her mum and it said that someone is killing the animals and she needs Emma to help find out who did it. So they go on a mission and they figure out that a special agent named shadow is doing it. So they find out more clues and as they go along their mission they think that Nema is doing it. Do you think that the special agent shadow is Nema?

I rate this book a 7 out of 10 because it was very interesting and because I love chapter books.

I recommend this book for 8 and over and for people who love reading EJ12 books.

A great helper of great Apes.

A woman named Birute mary Galdikas has studied orangutans for more than 40 years. These endangered Apes lived in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Borneo and Sumatra are islands in southeast Asia.

Birute’s teacher/mentor was the famous Louis Leakey. Louis Leakey is a famous anthropologist. An anthropologist is a study of the origins,development and varieties of human beings and their societies.

Louis also helped two other women who researched primates. All tropical rain forests are threatened. TFK interviewed Birute about her experience with orangutans and asked her questions on how people can save the orangutans from extinction.

TFK also asked Birute on the threats orangutans face and also her fascination about them. TFK stands for Time For Kids. Birute said that after reading curious George she became more interested in learning more about animals. She was also interested in animals and their ways and this was even before she went to kindergarten.

Birute knew nothing about orangutans and great Apes. When she was seven years old she wanted to know even more about them so she decided to become an explorer. She wanted to go to the jungles and learn about their close relatives and how they lived. So most of her days she would go to the public library and get books about orangutans.

Birute said that the public library became her lifeline to knowledge and information. Birute said that orangutans can be saved if everyone stopped eating processed foods containing palm oil.

This book is about four girls named Claudia,Stacey,Mary-Anne and Kristy. They all start fighting about their flaws and suddenly they all split up. As Mary is on her own she tries to get the baby sitters club back together again. Mary-Anne tries to cope with working with her  new friends instead of her others. Do you think that Mary-Anne will complete her task or fail it? Do you think that the girls will ever be friends again?

I rate this book a 8 out of 10 because it was very interesting and because I love to read books like these which are comics.

I recommend this book for 7 and over and for reading lovers who love to read the baby sitters club books.

Book review 6: Fantastic Mr Fox.

Fantastic Mr Fox

Fantastic Mr Fox is a book about a clever Fox. Mr Fox always sneaks into other people's places. The most common places he sneaks into is three farmers named Boggis,Bunt and Bean. Boggis,Bunt and Bean find out that Mr Fox has been taking their food and they go on a lookout to find Mr Fox and his family. There plan was that when they find them they will kill each and every one of them. The three men went to the hole that Mr Foxes family lived in. Mr Fox is very good at smelling from far and close distance. So Mr Fox could smell the three men and so he told his wife and kids and then they all left. The three men got up to their hole but they were already gone and the men thought that they were still there so they stayed there for days until they found them but they never did. So Boggis put out a big chicken which they loved and thought that they were going to come out but they never did because they weren’t there. My favourite part was when they were all having a competition at digging to see who would get who.

I rate this book an 8 out of 10 because it was very interesting.

I recommend this book for 7 and over and for reading lovers who love to read Roald Dahl.

The Baby sitters club: The truth about stacey.

There is a girl named Stacey and she lived in New York and moved to stony brook where she met some friends named Kristy, Claudia and Mary-Anne. So All four of them took part in something called baby sitters club. The baby sitters club is where parents ring them and if they can’t look after their children then the four girls will take good care of their children until their parents come back. While Stacey was in New York she had diabetes. One of Stacey’s friends in New York was Laine. Laine didn’t know she had diabetes so a boy named Bobby Reeder told her that stacey was contagious and Laine believed him. So then Laine kept staying away from Stacey and stopped being her friend. At the end Stacey moved back to New York and was staying with Laine and then they both went to a movie theater and they both said sorry to each other and became friends again.

I rate this book a 10/10 because it was very interesting. I recommend this book for 9 and over and for those who love reading the baby sitters club books.
