Summer learning journey- Activity 3: Going, Going….Gone
New Zealand is very different compared to other countries. One of the best things about New Zealand
is that we are one of the countries that has the lowest crime rate in the world! We have beautiful cities
such as Rotorua, Hamilton, Queenstown, Whakatane, and the most populated city- Auckland.
Auckland has glorious beaches spread across the city and it’s really beautiful to watch the sunset
and sunrise just sitting on the soft sand. The hot scorching weather is beautiful and there are so many
fun activities to explore and do that many countries don’t have. The SkyTower in the city is 24 years old
and is about 328 metres high. You can do bungee jumping off it, you can walk up on it, and do heaps of
cool things. We are well known for our famous native bird that is flightless, the Kiwi! We have many
native trees as well such as the Pohutukawa tree, Kauri tree, Kowhai tree, and also the famous plant
which is the New Zealand Fern. You may recognise it on NZ sports uniforms as well. We have so
many famous and delicious foods here such as Pavlova, hokey pokey ice-cream, Jaffas, fish and chips,
crayfish, and of course a Hangi which is very traditional for Maori and polynesian people.

Kia Ora AJ! It's Amanda here again...
ReplyDeleteFirst thing I'd like to say is AWESOME IMAGES! They make our country New Zealand look more pleasant to those who hasn't seen New Zealand before! I myself didn't know that we are one of the countries who had the lowest crime rate. If I was someone who wasn't from New Zealand then your sentence "Auckland has glorious beaches spread across the city and it's really beautiful to watch the sunset and sunrise just sitting on the soft sand" would convince me to visit New Zealand!
Your work makes New Zealand sound unique and different! It's amazing how you've included so many interesting things about New Zealand! I don't have much to say but keep up the good work! Just one last question... Are you proud of living in New Zealand?
Thank you,
Amanda
Thanks Amanda! And to answer your question, yes. I am very proud of living in New Zealand because i've been living here ever since I was born so it's like my home. Anyways, thanks again!
DeleteHi AJ,
ReplyDeleteIt's Leslie here, writing to you from Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. Isn't it amazing that I can be part of this program while living on the other side of the world?!! We're having a real winter here with lots of snow on the ground and below 0 temperatures. Perhaps that's hard for you to imagine as you enjoy a lovely summer day!
Your description of New Zealand is wonderful. You've given a really well-rounded list of the special features that New Zealand has to offer visitors. Perhaps you'll want to think of going into the tourist industry when you're older!
I wonder which of the foods you listed is your favourite. My daughter, Rachel, and our grandson, Aronui, live in Auckland so I've had a chance to visit and try Hokey Pokey ice cream - yum!! That's not a flavour we have here in Canada, unfortunately.
I hope you're enjoying the summer and that you'll continue to do more of the Summer Learning Journey activities. You're doing so well! I'll look forward to reading your blog again.
Cheers,
Leslie
