Writing: Zoo Trip

CTK Zoo trip

On Friday 31st of August, the whole of Christ The King School went to Auckland Zoo. It was a
wonderful sunny day and we all got to experience some amazing animals and plants. We were
divided in different groups with our teachers and parent helpers.

When we arrived at Auckland Zoo, we were accompanied by a lady named Kirsty who told us
our schedule for the day and the safety rules. After that, we all went exploring with our adult
helper. The first part of the zoo my group visited was the Australian area. In the Australian
section, we got to see amazing animals and birds such as Wallabies, Tasmanian devils,
Sulphur-crested cockatoos and much more! My group and I, also visited the African side of the
zoo where we saw some big bulk mammals which were incredible! We saw tigers, lions, and
some fantastic elephants which linked perfectly to the writing we were doing on Asian and
African elephants.

My group and I, had an amazing opportunity to visit the NZCCM (New Zealand Centre for
Conservation Medicine). We also got to go inside a classroom where we got to learn lots of
information from a helpful man, Fraser. Fraser told us all about the previous polar bear and
lion that used to be in the zoo but both sadly died. The polar bear had died due to it’s skin
colour turning green because of the temperature they were in. Polar bears are used to being in
the Antarctic where it’s cold but since it’s hot here in Auckland, the colour of it’s skin was turning
green which caused their death. Our group got to see the toys that animals use to get their food
and we also got to watch a cool video on the staff at Auckland Zoo where they talk about their
job at the Zoo.

After our lesson with Fraser, we visited the NZCCM where we saw the tools the doctors use
to treat the animals. After a good session of learning, we got to see the tiger show which
featured the beautiful Mother and son tigers, Molique and Berani. The entertainment at the zoo
was something that kept you occupied for quite a while so even after all the walking we did, we
were still excited to see more and more! We all carried on exploring the zoo and taking photos
together. When it was time to leave, everyone gathered together to our meeting point at the
entrance where we were again accompanied by Kirsty. All the CTK students went on the buses
to go back to school and it started to pour down with rain. Luckily we were finished at the zoo
and it stayed sunny while we were there because we all had a fantastic time and took away
great memories with us!
