Everyone in school including Greg hates mouldy cheese. One day, Greg accidentally touched a mouldy cheese and decided to put it in the bin. Everyone knew and Greg was called cheese stinker even Greg’s best friend Rowley. Rowley didn't want to be his friend. Do you think Rowley is ever going to become Greg’s friend again?

Contamination of water.
Contamination of Water.
Do you think contamination of water is bad for you? Yes, contamination of water is bad.
Here are some facts to tell you about it. Contaminated water is bad for you because it has lots of bacteria and germs. It is also of polluted water. When acid rain comes down the litter flows into the drain and goes through the waterways this goes into our taps. So that means when we drink our water out of our taps it is dirty water too. Another bad thing about it, it can make you sick and it is not healthy for you or your body.
One of the effects with contaminated water , it can cause diseases, a breakdown on the food chain and also extinction. The many causes of how water are contaminated are the use of pesticides, cattle waste and litter thrown in the drain and this results to killing marine mammals like the whales. The farmers factories are responsible for the waste because thats where all the waste comes from. Pesticides used for fruits and vegetables go back to our waterways, it destroys life in the water. So the farmers need to come up with a solution. Avoid the use of the solution to spray like the insecticides, when it rains the spray are washed off and kills the germs, these go to our waterways.
When the litter is on the ground it goes to the streams and rivers which cause pollution and it contaminates water.
I think that we need to stop having contaminated water and to do that is to stop leaving litter on the ground and dumping them elsewhere because when it rains the litter goes through the drains.
We need to put our litter in the right bins.
We need to put our litter in the right bins.

Fruit Fly.
Fruit Fly.
As I walk pass the bus stop I see a sign that says beware you are now entering a fruit fly area. So do you ever wonder why we have fruit flies and why it causes such a big problem well I’ll tell you why.
Fruit flies can lay up to 500 eggs at a time near the surface. The number of fruit flies found in Auckland is expected to rise as biosecurity and the experts battle the worst outbreak in almost 20 years. Two more Queensland fruit flies is discovered at Grey lynn property. The ministry of primary industry will start spraying and setting up bait traps as it moves to contain the outbreak. The spray that they are using is an insecticide called bifenthrin. Fruit flies is the worlds most serious agricultural pests. Fruit flies has affected New zealand’s fruit and vegetables and has damaged our gardens. people can get disease and get sick by fruit flies. Fruit flies can make the food ugly and go all moldy and make it look disgusting.

pollution
Pollution
I wonder why pollution is such a big issue. Why does it have to kill so many sea mammals and sea birds. Why does it have to kill even people.Pollution is a big problem that has affected over 100 millions of people. They get sick, acquire allergies sometimes and results to cancer.
Pollution results to polluted water. Every year 14 billion pounds of garbage is dumped into the ocean and most of it is plastic. The animals that live in the ocean will die because the plastic and rubbish has been blown onto them.
People who live in places with high levels of air pollutants are at the risk of death from lung cancer. Air pollutants is dangerous and there things that make the air very unclean. Air pollution affects kids more than adults because kids breathe more air and spend more time outside. Also it affects kids more because it is not good for there body and size. pollution is one of the biggest global killers.
If pollution affects babies then they will be born with birth defects. Birth defects is when the baby gets a disability or they can not hear. This will take medical or surgical treatment to fix this.
I hope that pollution will go away and the only solution to do that is to not litter and to not leave things on the ground. Think about it, the world so clean no rubbish or anything so please stop pollution.

My message about Respect.
Respect
I think that everyone should have respect for each other and for themselves. People should obey their parents and elders. If people want respect then you have to be kind and nice. One thing to have respect is to treat others the way they want to be treated and treat them equally. If you do not treat them nicely then you won't get the respect you want.
Fungi
Long ago, fungi were thought to be close relatives of plants, because they mostly grew from the ground and did not move about as animals do. But we now know that fungi cannot use water and direct sunlight for growth,as plants can. Instead, they make chemicals that break down dead or living organic materials (bits of animals or plants) to use as food. Fungi are very important to the general circle of life,as minerals released from this breakdown are returned to the soil to enrich it,and so provide food for growing plants.
There are more than 20,000 fungi species in New Zealand, and probably around 300,000 worldwide. They range greatly in size :the tiniest is too small to see without a microscope, while the largest are almost too heavy to lift. Fungi come in many different shapes and may have dull or bright colours. Hundreds of species have the traditional mushroom shape of stalk and cap,but others look like potatoes, bowls, cones, sea stars, fans, sea anemones, tiny button or leaves. Some are soft and fragile, some are jelly-like,and some are as tough as old leather or wood.
A number of species are used in the making of foods such as cheese and wine, and in medicines. There are many edible species,too-and many, more that are harmful and even deadly poisonous to animals and humans. Never tasted and unidentified fungus. Even if you have touched it,make sure that you do not put your fingers to your mouth, and make sure you wash your hands as soon as you can. Fungi reproduce by releasing fine spores into the air, sometimes with an explosive ‘puff ‘. The common term’ mushroom’ is generally used for fungi that have an obvious stalk topped by a cap of some sort, and the name toadstool ‘ is often applied to those with a grainy, warty covering on the cap - probably because this makes them look like a warty toad.

Facts about the Nikau tree
Facts about the Nikau
tree
Most palm trees exist in tropical countries but not the Nikau tree. Nikau is an expensive tree because the bulb in the middle of the tree is rare and you would have to destroy the whole tree if you want to eat it. The fronds of Nikau trees are used for roofs to build houses. They are built together in layers to prevent rain to seep through and to protect the house from the heat of the sun.
The Maori used Kete to make bags, hats and clothings. They also use it to weave baskets. To make these things they used the leaf strips of palm fronds. The Nikau is special to New zealand and the Maori. It is special to the Maori because Nikau has many uses to them and it is special to New zealand because it is a native tree to us.

Botanical gardens
Botanical gardens
I woke up surprised and happy saying I'm going to the botanical gardens today. I quickly got dressed,Put on my shoes, have my breakfast, brush my teeth and get into the car and off we go. When I got to school I saw lots of people with their sport shoes on like me. Then I checked my bag and made sure I had everything I needed like some sunscreen, water, food and my sun hat. I had everything I needed so then we all got into our groups. Mrs Cochrane gave a group a camera each so we can take picture’s on the plants and leaves so that when we get back to school we can do research on them and learn about it. Then the bus came and everyone went on the bus. I was really happy because it was a double decker so I hopped on the top and I sat next to Gina. When the bus started going It felt like I was flying up high in the air.. It was a long ride but then we finally got there. When the bus stopped we all got out and there was an instructor named Caroline and she took us to the courtyard and then we met another lady named Susan. After that Susan told us the rules. Then we had morning tea and I had chocolate chip cookie and pizza bun. After that Caroline took my classroom room 4 to a classroom to learn about exotic, endemic, native plants and weeds. Then she put down some card’s and asked everyone to pick a card that is native to New Zealand. Then Caroline told us that we were going to the children's garden so when we got there we had to spray some spray on us so that the mosquitoes won’t bite us. Then we had a tui story and Gina was the tui it was really funny. Then we had a magic moment which is when Caroline gives a mat to us to sit on and we have to sit down somewhere not close to each other and think about the sounds that were coming from different directions. Then we had to get into groups and find the plants on the pitcher that was given to us. I was with Faith and Arianna. Then we went over a bridge to see the kowhai. Then we had to get the seeds from the seed pods and we were given a little bag to put it in and if it was brown that would not be good but if it was yellow it is good. Then Caroline leaded us to a place where we can do pricking, flax or cutting and Caroline showed us all of them of how to do it. So then we all did it and I did the cutting and pricking and when mine was all done it looked really pretty. After that we went back to the courtyard had our lunch with the rest of the classes. Then when we finished our lunch we went for our bush walk. For our bush walk we went to the feijoa tree, guava tree and heaps of more trees. The bush walk took a long time but we finally got back to the courtyard. So when everyone all met at the courtyard we all just had to wait for the bus to come back. So the bus came and everyone hopped on and I went on the top again and I saw a car that said just married because that were getting married. When the bus started moving I was about to fall asleep but it was really noisy so then I tried to have a sleep later on but I saw that we were already at school. Then the bus stopped and everyone raced back to their classrooms but not me because my legs were so sore. So when we got to our classrooms the teacher opened the door and we all put our plants on the bench and some watered it. After that we said our going home prayer and then we all went home and I had to walk. The botanics was really fun and I had a great time.
