Te Taha wai marae
When you first step through the waharoa tapu of the tangata whenua should be observed. The tangata whenua started the karanga which was the call. The manuhiri started to walk forward towards the marae.
When you get to the entrance, you had to, take off your shoes because it was part of the maori protocol. Once you had taken off your shoes you could go inside and sat on the mat. Before you do the activities the tangata whenua tell you their names and they go over some rules. For example if you are not listing then they will say Whakarongo and you always have to put up your hand if you want to say something.
We sang three Maori songs and one person did a mi-hi about himself. Then the people gave us some food. We had one biscuit and water. After that,we did activities, only some people did it. A girl named Brenda taught us a Maori song with actions and it was really fun.
Later on the boys did the Haka and they were really fierce and it was kind of scary.
It was so fun at the
Marae, I had a great time.
Great recount of the Marae visit, and remembered the protocol and rules explained by the kamatua. Well done-- I wish you include the thinglink you've done about the marae..... KAI PAI!!
