Do you know a country that is to the North West of New Zealand? Do you know the place that has koalas. It is Australia.

Australia has an estimated population of over 22 million people. It is the 6th biggest country by area. We think of Australia as the island continent. The largest cities in Australia are Melbourne,Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.

In Australia there is one place that covers up most of the land, the desert called “outback”. And as I was saying it covers up most of the land. The name Australia comes from the latin word “Australis,” meaning Southern. The people have lived In Australia for about 45,000 years.

The highest mountain in Australia is Mt Kosciuszko. Australia has range of different landscapes, including urban areas, mountain ranges, deserts and rainforests. Australia has over 750 different reptile species which are more than any other country in the world!

Australia is known for the variety of unique animals such as the Koala, Kangaroo,Emu,Kookaburra, Platypus and many more. Australia has hosted the summer olympics in 1956 in Melbourne and again has hosted it in Sydney in 2000.

Australia is a wonderful place to be in and you should go there too. Australia has so many fascinating animals that you can learn about. I hope that you have learned some facts about Australia.
