boys building sandcastle

Boys building sandcastles.

On a hot sunny summers day I am walking along the beach and found two boys making a sandcastle they are putting sand in the bucket then tipping the bucket over onto the sand

There sandcastle looks like the shape of a bucket. There are 3 castles on each lane and all of them are the same size.  One of them is getting the shovel and
putting the sand in the bucket and the other one is getting the bucket and tipping it over. Then I hear them say when we finish we should collect some                                                                                                              shells to put on the  sandcastles.

At the beach I can smell the fresh spray of salt water  splashing on my face.I can see the seagulls passing by looking for there next meal. The boys left space in the sandcastle  maybe to make more sandcastles. When the boy were holding the spade I thought he is going to smack it on the ground. As I am walking on the ground I could feel the  soft and smooth sand going into my feet with lots of salt-water.

I think when the boys grow up they will be real builders (if that's what they want to become)

Mary mackillop

One day my school went to mary mackillop centre In mission bay. We met the sisters of saint Joseph and one of the sisters told us a story about when she taught at our school. Her name is sister Elizabeth and she said that she knows some of the teachers from our school she taught. After that we went to the museum. At the museum I saw a statue and it wasn't just any statue it were a statue of Saint Joseph.

When we finished exploring the museum we went into a room where all the sisters were seated. They told us when they started teaching at our school and when they started to be a teacher. They said how much they love being a sister of Joseph.

When they finished talking we ate our lunch. While we were eating our lunch they were giving out cups to people so that we can have juice,I had some juice and it were delicious.

Later on we went back on the bus back to school. I had a really great time at mission bay and I really learnt alot. I am looking forward to going there again.

Nana and the flowere arranger

When Nana had her funeral Emma the sister put the most perfect white sweet pea from Nana’s garden.

Mum added a precious shell from the beach and Grandad put a fluffy spoonbill feathers on the coffin,Nana always kept on her dressing table. After that someone gave Grandad a spade so he could put Nana’s coffin into the ground. Brother Luke didn’t do anything but just stood there next to dad looking at the bush over the fence. Then Luke heard something. Listen said Luke, A bell bird. Shh said dad. Grandad said to Luke, nan would be happy here.

Then they all walked out the graveyard behind everyone else. When we got to nana and Grandad’s house lots of people were eating and drinking and also telling stories about Nana’s  long life. Later that day, when most people were gone Grandad, dad, mum and Emma went back to the graveyard. When they got there they saw high pile of flowers. Then Luke put a flower down and Emma said angrily thats a weed and then dad said leave him alone. The next day Granddad said that he would want to go to the graveyard again, and so they went. At the entrance they saw fantails flittering around Granddad ‘s feet. Hurry up Luke’s mum said. he ran on and then he was shocked. he saw that all the flowers were scrunched and papers were ripped. Then Luke put his face into granddad ‘s jacket. Then they were all smiling. Then luke was wondering why they all were smiling. Then they all saw a weka trying to take the golden ribbon.

I love the story nana and they flower arranger because it is very interesting and I hope other people will like it to.

recount on te taha wai marae

When you first step through the waharoa tapu of the tangata whenua should be observed. The tangata whenua started the karanga which was the call. The manuhiri started to walk forward towards the marae.

When you get to the entrance, you had to, take off your shoes because it was part of the maori protocol. Once you had taken off your shoes you could go inside and sat on the mat. Before you do the activities the tangata whenua tell you their names and they go over some rules. For example if you are not listing then they will say whakarongo and you always have to put up your hand if you want to say something.

We sang three Maori songs and one person did a mi hi about himself. Then the people gave us some food. We had one biscuit and water. After that,we did activities, only some people did it. A girl named Brenda taught us a Maori song with actions and it was really fun.
Later on the boys did the haka and they were really fierce and it was kind of scary.

The eraly chathem islanders

The early chatham islanders

when the polynesian people came from new zealand to the chatham islands they had to adapt or change their way of doing things. firstly these people tried to find their food because they couldn't grow their usual vegetables cause of the cooler climate. For example they couldn't grow kumara taro and yams so instead they had to find new food. So they went of exploring. The boat was a waka boat so they could fit all their food. Then they made a new boat and made it very buoyant so the boat would not sink but float above the water. The people who went into the boat were the moriori people the polynesian. Then the european visitors came and they did not appreciate the skills of the moriori people because they thought it meant that they  were clumsy and thought that the boat was very clumsy. Time past and the canoes brought back the men from their long journey and the skilled invaders learnt to adapt life in new environment.

solar oven

Solar oven
By: Anastazia
Solar ovens are designed to cook food by using sunlight and reflective materials to produce heat. The light waves created by sunlight carried a lot of heat and warmth. Solar ovens prove to be safe and effective under good conditions when there is good sunlight. The temperature inside a solar oven can reach up to 300 degrees and it can cook food. Solar ovens are used by some because of their environmental benefits and it does not cause pollution.  Sun is a natural form of energy. Why not use it?
